If you are anywhere within driving distance to Guntersville, then do I have a restaurant that you should go and try! It’s called Top O’ The River and it is located right by the lake in beautiful Guntersville, Alabama. This restaurant is very family friendly and it is decorated as one might imagine a restaurant would be that is right on the lake and serves fish.
Fishing poles, a large fish tank, and mounted fish adorn the walls. They specialize in lots of fried delicacies like catfish, shrimp, and other seafood but they also serve chicken and steaks as well. To me, the real treat is what they start you off with before you ever even place your order from the menu. They bring out a little mini iron skillet of some of the most delicious cornbread you have ever tasted. You know the kind that has just a hint of sweetness to it. Then they bring out a little tin cup of coleslaw that is to die for!
We were told before we ever tried the place that we needed to order the Pot O’ Greens and so we did and I am not lying when I say that I could have made a meal on just the cornbread, slaw, and greens alone…they were that good! We did go ahead and order something off of the menu. We chose to share the fried popcorn shrimp platter and was it HUGE!!
It was fried perfectly! Not too greasy or overcooked like some fried foods can be done at times. It came with hushpuppies and we opted for a baked potato to accompany it. We were completely delighted from the beginning of our experience here to the end. They have seats that look out over the beautiful lake.
I highly recommend you ask to be seated there as it was a lovely touch to the experience. Their waitstaff was very attentive and kept our glasses filled the whole time while also checking in on us periodically to see if we needed another skillet of cornbread or slaw. To say that we left out of there stuffed would be a great understatement.
The food was all wonderful and we look forward to going there again in the very near future. I hope you will give this great restaurant a try….I think you just might like it!
