Space, Beer and Great Food at Rocket City Tavern

For those of you who may not know, there is a hip new establishment in Huntsville just outside gate nine on the arsenal, Rocket City Tavern. The name is very fitting as it pays homage to all of the qualities that make our great city what it is.

With pictures of NASA and the first rocket scientists, mission control, and Warner Von Braun, all things related to the curious wonder of space. Rocket City Tavern is one of four other establishments (Besides RCT, there is a Redstone Conference hall, Fiero Mexican Grill, and a sandwich shop, DipWich; all of which share a centrally located kitchen) that will service our community.

I say community because at the grand opening Michael O’Donovan and Michael Northern; both partners announced that although they were Arsenal based, the restaurants were there to serve the community and not just those who worked on base. Rocket City Tavern is very inviting with its surrounding glass exterior. It opens up to some of the most beautiful decor one could imagine.

Very polished and warm with both elements of beautiful wood and rustic brick. Their bar is magnificent and can be utilized both inside as well as outside when weather permits. They also have a very inviting outdoor seating area. Now on to the most important thing that you all are wondering about, the food.

Although it was a soft opening and we were only given samples of a few of the dishes they have on their menu, I can tell you that we were highly impressed with each one. If you are a wing-lover, then you simply must try their Black Pepper Caramel Wing appetizer.

It is wonderfully sticky and sweet with a bit of heat. Unlike any other wing, I have tried to date. Their Salsa, Guacamole, and Spinach Artichoke dip is delicious, and their flour and corn tortilla chips are unique and pair so well with the dips.

We had a most delightful chicken salad, Chinois Chicken, and it was so flavorful and tangy with fresh greens and delicious slices of grilled chicken, julienned vegetables, toasted almonds, and sesame dressing. I adore this salad!

Next, we tried the Penne Pasta Bolognese and oh my how rich, savory and comforting this dish was. Their Bolognese sauce is also what they drizzle over their Rocket City Frito Pie appetizer; a definite “must try.

For dessert, we sampled the Warm Chocolate Bundt Cake a la Mode and the White Chocolate Bread Pudding, and words like decadent and heavenly come to mind, but I can say with absolute certainty that the Strawberry and Blueberry Cobbler a la Mode is the absolute TOPS!!! It is so wonderfully amazing the way the buttery crust gives way to the sweet and tangy fruit and then when it mixes with the vanilla ice-cream it is like all of the stars have aligned and the world is right!

All I can say is that Huntsville is very blessed to have the talents of Michael Northern’s expertise in the kitchen to create a one of a kind menu that is very original. Before moving to our great state he was the Corporate Executive Chef at Nordstroms of Seattle for 18 years and the author of 4 successful Nordstrom cookbooks.

Before that, he was the Senior Vice President, Corporate Chef of The Levy Restaurants in Chicago for 21 years. A bonus of this great establishment is the opportunity to dine at the chef’s table where you are given the golden treatment.

Having some distinguished guests coming into town, then this is just the kind of thing that is sure to impress. Michael gave us the grand tour himself and what a joy it was to meet such a great talent who is so very passionate about his cooking and sharing his knowledge and love of great food. Rocket City Tavern is sure to become one of Huntsville’s premiere gathering places.  Check out their awesome menu by Clicking Here!
