Named after the family that settled on the land in 1809, the Blevins Gap Nature Preserve is 971 acres of sure beauty. Steph and I hiked the Cecil Ashburn Land Trust Trailhead called the Bill and Marion Certain Trail named after the couple that donated the land to the preserve. We took some steep climbs while hiking to the top of Green Mountain, But WOW was the scenery and view worth it! We sat on the stone lookout under the power lines and saw the most beautiful view of Huntsville. We could see the NASA rocket test stands at Marshall Space Flight Center and the Tennessee River from that view also. Truly a tiring but amazing hiking adventure!
We ran across some really nice people on the hike and even a few creatures we wish we had not but we left the snakes alone and they left us alone so all was good. As we came up on this one large snake I told Steph to not move and let him slither on off but that didn’t happen….she bolted down the trail! She really cracks me up!
This was a great way to spend a few hours getting out in nature and it didn’t cost a thing! We highly recommend this hiking trail for couples as well as families. It can be a really great bonding experience!
TheHikingProject.com is cool site to show you the trail and give you some important information about the hike. You can also watch a 3D path of the hike. Thanks Google Maps!! Check it out here!
